Its lightness and low-profile design make it a great complement for bikers who want a helmet-mounted action cam, or musicians looking to capture interesting angles at a gig. The GoPro Hero 4 Session looks certain to be a firm favorite for adrenaline junkies. I managed a little over two hours of video at full-HD 30fps. Battery life in general is impressive for such a small camera. The Session can last a full six days on standby like this. Best of all, GoPro has added low-energy Bluetooth so neither device’s battery drains too fast while connected. Without a housing, but with a memory card, it weighs 2.6 oz (74 g). ![]() Front view, next to a GoPro HERO4 Silver without a housing. It’s just a sliver larger than the Polaroid Cube. Without the frame its dimensions are 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.4 inches (33 x 33 x 31.3 mm). It’s easy to use, and connections between a phone and the Session are rock solid. The camera is almost, but not quite, a cube. The GoPro app has a slew of settings you can tweak to help create the perfect video as well as remotely control the Session. The only other button is tiny and lets you either flag interesting moments in a movie or connect the Session to a smartphone, helpful for getting the most out of the Session. There’s a tiny LCD screen, a flap covering the microSD and microUSB slots and a main button that lets you shoot video or, with a longer press, time-lapse photos. They are the only models that can go into the water naked. The Hero 4 Session, Hero 5 Session, Hero 5 Black, Hero 6 Black, Hero 7 Silver, Hero 7 Black, and the Hero 8 Black can also reach 10m without any protective housing. Although, I preferred the standard bar mount for the majority of my rides.įinally, I was impressed by the video quality and the ease with which I was able to cut the video and then share on social media or download to my smartphone.Being so small means the GoPro Hero 4 Session doesn’t have many controls on the body. GoPros can reach a depth of 40m with the use of their protective housing. Higher resolution video modes like 5.3K/60fps will drain your GoPro’s battery much faster than 1080p/30fps. The various mount options mean that you can get numerous shots from different angles. A fully charged GoPro camera can typically record for 50 minutes to 150 minutes, depending on which camera model you have and which video mode you use.
